H.E. AMB. John L. Lanyasunya, graces Madaraka Day celebrations and launch of the Association of Kenyans in Alberta (AKA) in Edmonton, Alberta on May 30th, 2015.

H.E. Amb. John Lanyasunya attended a colourful ceremony hosted by the Association of Kenya in Alberta in Edmonton on 30th May, 2015 to celebrate Madaraka Day and to launch the Association.  He was received by the new Chairperson of A.K.A.  Ms. Veronica Waititu and other committee members.

The Chairperson, on behalf of the Community thanked H.E. the High Commissioner for honouring their invitation.She said that his presence demonstrates the government’s recognition and appreciation of the diaspora’s role in Kenya’s development. She added that they looked forward to working harmoniously with the High Commission.

In his remarks, the High Commissioner thanked the Association for the wonderful reception and commended them for their unity.  He reminded them that diaspora is a key pillar in Kenya’s foreign policy due to its key role in the socio-economic development of the country.

He encouraged Kenyans to invest in Kenya and to partner with the Kenya High Commission to take advantage of the opportunities available in Canada for the mutual benefit of the two countries.  He assured the community of his support and co-operation.

He further lauded the great strides Kenya has taken since independence in the economic, social, and political spheres.  He concluded by reaffirming the commitment of H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta towards supporting the diaspora in all their endeavours.
